How my creative business began and evolved

Hey, and welcome to oneartsymomma blog! My name is Laura and I'm the owner of oneartsymomma jewelry. I'm a stay at home michigander mom to two young girls, a wifey, a freelance graphic designer and oneartsymomma shop creator. I have always been the crafty and "artsy" type since I was very young. I dabbled in all sorts of crafts and art throughout my life and even went to college for graphic design. I worked as a professional graphic designer for many years before deciding to stay home with my first daughter.

How OneArtsyMomma began
I became familiar with Etsy from a coworker years before I quit my day job. After about a year of staying home with my daughter, I felt like I needed a little hobby for myself...something that wasn't related to changing diapers and caring for a baby.

This was about the same time that Pinterest was getting bigger and upon browsing through the website, I was getting more and more inspired. Making jewelry has interested me since I was a teen, so I naturally drifted towards that as my creative something. For the first few years, I listed a handful of things on Etsy.com and it was a fun little side hobby. I made a few sales here and there. It was something fun to have for myself that I could focus on outside of mommy life. I took a short break from it all when we moved and had our second daughter, but was soon drawn back into it all when she was about a year or so, and it soon took off from there.

When I finally felt successful
In searching around Etsy.com where I often bought supplies for my handmade earrings, I stumbled upon the druzy stone. At that time, it was a somewhat new trend. I bought a small selection of stones because they were so beautiful and started buying more and more before listing druzy jewelry in my Etsy shop. My shop soon got more and more attention, and then Christmas shopping season came. My sales started exploding and I found myself sending out bags and bags or orders.

This continued for about a year afterward. I had many sales each week, and often had a hard time keeping up. I always told people that I was just going to ride the wave until it stopped, and I did. The shop has since slowly slowed down a bit due to the saturation of druzy jewelry. I started to try adding some unique pieces that set my shop apart some of the others, but the original druzy stone has been the focus and have been my best-selling items.

So now you know a little more about me and how I got started in selling jewelry online. Having a little side business is really fun, but sometimes a challenge to keep up with when you also have a family, a freelance business and home to take care of. So, this blog is a place to share the things that I have learned along the way and how I manage it all. I hope you enjoy following along and hopefully learning a little too!
